What is annealing and why is it important for forming?
In order to make metals more workable, a heat treatment called annealing is used to improve the ductility. Metal Forming Industries uses controlled atmosphere furnaces to heat material above its critical temperature long enough to soften the material then air cooling it. Additional benefits to annealing include internal stress relief and improved structure consistency.
What are the advantages of in-house annealing?
Increased cold shaping possibilities because intermediate annealing can be utilized to improve the forming properties after the material is compressed during other operations such as cold heading.
Reduced chance of distortion during secondary operations such as machining.
Controlled atmosphere annealing decreases the chance of oxidation to annealed parts.
Improved reaction time and greater control of emergency product need fulfillment.
